Nov 4, 2008 Notes 1 Timothy 2:8
Therefore I desire that the men pray everywhere, lifting up holy hands,
without wrath and doubting; 1
Timothy 2:9 in like manner also, 1
Timothy 2:9 in
like manner also, that the women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with
propriety and moderation, not with braided hair or gold or pearls or costly
clothing, 1
Peter 3: 3 Do
not let your beauty be that outward adorning of arranging the hair, of wearing
gold, or of putting on fine apparel; 1
Peter 3:4 but let it be the hidden person of the heart,
with the incorruptible ornament of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is very
precious in the sight of God. What
Paul is emphasizing is that Christian women should adorn themselves with
clothing, hairstyles and jewelry which in
their culture are inexpensive not extravagant, modest not vain, and chaste
not suggestive.

Timothy 2:10 but,
which is proper for women professing godliness, with good works. 1
Timothy 2: 9 & 10
And I want women to get in there with the men in humility before
God, not primping before a mirror or chasing the latest fashions but doing
something beautiful for God and become beautiful doing it. 1
Timothy 2:11 Let
a woman learn in silence with all submission. 1
Timothy 2:12 And
I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man, but to be in
silence. 1
Corinthians 14: 34 Let
your women keep silent in the churches, for they are not permitted to speak; but
they are to be submissive, as the law also says, 1
Corinthians 14:35 And
if they want to learn something, let them ask their husbands at home; for it is
shameful for women to speak in church. Where authority and
submission are discussed in relationships in the New Testament, instructions are
given for how those relationships may be regulated so that they function in
Christian love and harmony and not with abuse. The Bible does not eliminate
authority but cautions that authority should be exercised in a way that honors
Christ. Those in authority (husbands, Elders, parents, employers) are instructed
to use their authority in a godly way. And also, those who are to submit to
these authorities (wives, church members, children, employees) are instructed to
submit to authority in a godly way. John

Timothy 2:14 And
Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived, fell into transgression. 1
Timothy 2:15 Nevertheless
she will be saved in childbearing if they continue in faith, love, and holiness,
with self-control. 1 Timothy 2:11-15 ends with a verse that no one has been able to
interpret " women will be saved through childbearing." If part of the
passage defies our exegesis, humility should deter us from being dogmatically
literal about the rest. Dr. Lee Haines We must
never forget what we owe to a woman. If Mary had not given birth to the
Christ-child, there would have been no salvation for anybody. No greater honor
has ever been given to a woman than in the calling of Mary to be the mother of
the Savior of the world.
